Lauren and Charley's story

Brooklin, ON, born premature, RMH Toronto Family Room in Markham Stouffville Hospital: 42 days

Lauren and Charley were born premature (32 weeks) at Mount Sinai Hospital. To be closer to home, their mom chose Markham Stouffville for the twin’s transfer and was delighted to discover a Ronald McDonald House Toronto Family Room right next to the NICU.

“The Family Room was great! It was a whirlwind and was so nice to have that room to take a break. You’re barely feeding yourself; you’re pumping all the time, trying to maintain your milk supply – and then you can at least go and have a snack, someone to ask you if you need anything. You’re utterly exhausted because you don’t feed yourself; you’re worried and you’re stressed out. It’s just something small, someone making you a cup of tea or something – you have a space.”

“The volunteers knitted hats for the twins and they’d ask ‘oh, how are they doing?’ showing concern – it was great, every time I came in they remembered me.” – Lauren and Charley’s Mom
