Bailey's story

Southern Harbour, NL, cardiac, 43 day stay and counting

I can't thank you enough for helping us out with the flights for my son Brady and sister Elaine. The past couple of months have been very tough on our family and when something good happens it makes for a better day. Thank you to WestJet for making that happen.

On July 5th, I took my 15-year-old son Bailey to Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital (in Newfoundland) thinking he just had a stomach bug that needed some extra care. Doctors told us we would stay the night. The following morning I was told he would then be transported by ambulance to the Janeway (children's hospital in Clarenville, NL ). It wasn't long before we were told he would then be transported to IWK Health Centre in Halifax. His heart was very weak.

In just hours, he was transported to Halifax and shortly after me, my husband and Bailey's twin Brady went also. We spent one month in Halifax. Then on July 29th, Bailey was back at the Janeway for a few days. On July 30th, Bailey was discharged with lots of medications to help with his recovery. Being very excited to go home, he asked to go to Walmart to get low sodium snacks because he needed to be very careful with his diet. In just moments after entering Walmart, Bailey went into cardiac arrest in his Dad's arms. We were frantic at that moment but luckily two nurses were shopping that day and brought our boy back. The ambulance arrived and took him to the Janeway again. Once again we were told he had to be transported to another hospital. This time Toronto and most likely a heart transplant would need to happen.

So here we are in Toronto waiting for that new heart.  It's tough on all the family. Bailey's twin brother is in Newfoundland with his Dad now. He did just have a visit with his brother but we also needed him to come back for their birthday in October (28th). You (Ronald McDonald House Toronto), with the help of WestJet helped make that happen. We hope to plan something special for their day and hope we can have the best birthday ever with Bailey getting his heart.

Thank you ever so much. Our family is right now going through a very rough time but its people like you and WestJet that make today a better day.  From all our family especially Bailey and Brady, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
