Inside the House: Family Lounge
Each and every room, space and corner inside the new Ronald McDonald House Toronto was meticulously planned out, built for a specific purpose, then thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of the seriously ill children and families who will use it as their own.
One of the first rooms a family enters upon arriving at the new House is the Family Lounge. Flanked by floor to ceiling windows on either side, a range of comfortable seating for children and adults, assorted tables and simple furnishings, the Family Lounge is a centerpiece of the new House.
It offers parents a place to read, relax and re-energize after a long day at the hospital, while providing a panoramic view of the world outside. Through the north windows of the Family Lounge sits the whimsical, brightly-coloured play structure and outdoor playground for children who could stay at the House days, weeks or even months. The south side windows offer a view of the Tranquility Garden.
A warm, inviting space, the Family Lounge exudes a cozy, home-like ambience with a natural limestone fireplace at one end, and a large freshwater aquarium at the other, fostering a sense of harmony and serenity. Families will walk through the Family Lounge many times, for different reasons, during their stay at the House --- always supported by a feeling of healing comfort.
