Toronto’s Ronald McDonald House receives $100,000 in Standard Radio’s “Million Dollar Feel Good Giveaway”

Toronto, ON, November, 2004 - It was not just another Monday morning for Debbie Jewczyk when she gathered with more than 600 excited, anxious and hopeful people in the Sheraton Centre’s Grand Ballroom in Toronto to find out if she was one of the five lucky recipients of Standard Radio’s incredible contest. Throughout the morning, the 283 contestants waited in anticipation of winning the “Million Dollar Feel Good Giveaway” – a share of $1 million: $100,000 for the winner and $100,000 for his/her favourite charity.

When Debbie’s name was called, she was ecstatic. She chose Toronto’s Ronald McDonald House as the fortunate recipient of $100,000 from Standard Radio. Previously Debbie had pledged support of her niece who participated in our 2003 Toddle for Tots event.

“It is so gratifying to be able to give away this kind of money and know half of it will go to benefit a wide range of different charities in our communities,” said Gary Slaight, president and CEO of Standard Radio. “By allowing the winners to choose where the money can go, ensures a charity or organization that has a special meaning and is close to their hearts will benefit from not only a generous contribution but a loving one as well.”

John Davis, President of Toronto’s Ronald McDonald House, in accepting the cheque for $100,000 at the TRMH Annual General Meeting and Donor/Volunteer Recognition Event said, “It is with great pleasure that we accept this extremely generous cheque. The ‘Million Dollar Feel Good Giveaway’ builds upon Standard Radio’s long history of supporting local and national charities. This innovative contest allowed listeners to dream about helping others. From a $40 pledge of her niece in our Toddle for Tots, Debbie was able to turn her support into a $100,000 gift! We are most grateful to Standard Radio and Debbie Jewcyzk for their incredible generosity to the families of seriously ill children who call Toronto’s Ronald McDonald House their ‘home away from home’.”
