Toronto's Ronald McDonald House is a 'home away from home' for out-of-town families whose children are receiving treatment for serious illness at Toronto hospitals (generally the Hospital for Sick Children, but others as well). Our goal is to provide an atmosphere for families and their children where the familiar routines of home life can continue as much as possible.

FINDING US:

We are located at 26 Gerrard Street East in downtown Toronto. It is a 5 minute walk from the Hospital for Sick Children.

WHO CAN STAY:

  • Families living a minimum of 70 km from the House whose child (18 or younger) is receiving medical treatment for serious illness at the Hospital for Sick Children or another area hospital.

Sometimes children will be referred to Toronto hospitals for specialized procedures or treatment of illnesses which are not life-threatening. High demand for rooms means that we quite exclusively serve those with children in treatment for life-threatening illness. This does NOT include:

    • Cleft palette surgery

    • Club foot surgery

    • Cochlear (ear) implants

    • ENT (Ear/Nose/Throat)

    • Mobius Syndrome

    • Strabismus (crossed eyes) surgery

  • Overnight guests These visitors to the House are charged $15 per night each and must sleep in the family's room. For security reasons, families must register all guests with staff.

  • BEDROOMS Similar to a hotel room, each bedroom at the House is equipped with two double beds and full ensuite bathroom. High demand means that only one bedroom can be assigned to each family.

    FEES:

Our room rate is $15 per night, per family to a maximum of $400 for a 30 day period. A family is defined as two adults and their children. Payment is made weekly unless written authorization has been received to bill another party for your stay.

    ARRANGING A STAY:

    • Unlike business or vacation travelers, few of our families can know how long they will need to be in town. Because we cannot ourselves know when any family may leave and free up a room, rooms cannot be booked in advance.

    • STEP 1: Call us at (416) 977-0458 to ensure that you qualify to stay with us. This is also your opportunity to pose any questions you may have about the House.

    • STEP 2: Make alternate arrangements. The demand for rooms at the House is very great and the length of wait experienced by families who have traveled to town varies greatly and can range from a few days to several weeks.

If calling one of the following area hotels, explain that you are traveling to pursue hospital care so you might secure a discounted 'hospital rate'.

      • Days Hotel, 30 Carlton St, 416-977-6655

      • Courtyard Marriott, 475 Yonge St, 416-924-0611

      • Delta Chelsea, 33 Gerrard St W, 1-800-CHELSEA, (416) 595-1975

      • The Residence, 90 Gerrard St W, 416-351-1010, (With a communal washroom and no separate kitchen facilities, perhaps best suited to those with children in hospital.)

    • STEP 3: Call us at (416) 977-0458 the weekday before your arrival date to begin checking for room availability.

    • STEP 4: Continue calling daily at (416) 977-0458 to check on room availability. Because some on our wait list may return home or settle elsewhere without advising us, it is essential that you continue to call daily to remain on our wait list.
