My Story
When I went to the doctor
he said I had cancer.
And the medicine was all the way in Toronto.
My mommy and daddy cried.
So I told them
knock-knock jokes to make them happy again.
This is my new home....
Toronto's Ronald McDonald House.
Inside are 28 families.
Some stay 10 days
or 10 months for a new heart or something.
All the kids here are sick like me,
and all the grown-ups are worried.
Mom says that when you meet strangers in this House
you go from strangers
to family really fast.
I get invited to a lot of dinners.
But here's my rule...
if I can't pronounce it - I don't eat it - yuck!
This is my bedroom.
It has butterflies all around because of a boy named Justin.
He said he was a butterfly.
These are my best friends - nice hats!
I play air hockey and paint - these are some of our drawings.
This is my mom.
She shaved her head to look more like me.
Mom says now she has no more "bad hair days."
This is my last day here
so the rest of these pages
are for all of the other kids who find their way here.
Me?
I'm going back to my other home.
But I'll be carrying memories I will never forget.
